Koch Foods spreads its wings, adds jobs in Mississippi

MISSISSIPPI — Koch Foods Inc. will expand its poultry processing plants in Morton and Forest. Koch will spend approximately $35 million dollars and add 200 jobs, primarily at the Morton plant.

The Park Ridge, Illinois, company employs about 32,00 people in Scott County, Mississippi, and 14,000 nationwide. It plans to add 3,200 square feet, to the Morton plant. The planned expansion will cost about $33 million dollars.

The Mississippi Development Authority provided assistance in the expansion, primarily with the improvement of roads in the area. Scott County was near the lowest in Mississippi in unemployment in September, with a 3.7 percent jobless rate. This influx of jobs will make a significant change to the community. Koch Foods is the 163rd largest private company in the United States, according to Forbes.com.
